Michael, I'm home sick today and I came across your site. I just spent an hour looking through everything and had a great time. Thanks so much for the hard work and research. Well done.

Hering Grid Illusions, possible explanation: Try looking at the image with only one eye. Notice that when your eye is still, the dots do not change color, but they do when your eye moves around. Now try obscuring your right eye with your hand, then your left. The images move around ever so slightly, don't they? Now, remember the strobing light effect? It seems that residual images processed by the brain blend the box's color with the street color when they are superimposed. However, bending the lines tend to trick the brain into perceiving that the lines are wider than they usually are, terminating the effect if not enough movement is present. Just a theory though, I'm not exactly a scientist doing research on illusions...

This site was a lot of fun - I really wasn't expecting to find anything so comprehensive and interesting. I plan to bookmark it and visit again soon!

Something you might be interested to know: Looking at the Motion Induced Blindness illusion (the one with the rotating crosses and yellow dots), the yellow dots not only disappear, but dots of the same size that are darker than the background also appear for me. What's more confusing is that they don't strictly appear at the juncture of the crosses; rather, they seem to be loosely clustered around those points.

I have no idea what all the scientific gibberish means, but I loved looking at the illusions. Thank you for sharing/

Great idea, well done ! There are still some jewels to be found in the chaotic swamp of the internet ...
