I like watching optical illusion and this site is where I must frequently visit to enjoy the magic of perception. Thanks so much for your work!

in this illusion I noticed, that without using bars, it was not very easy to change to another stable perception by forcing myself to interpret it differently, however eyemovement has significant impact: quickly looking sideways and back (also sideways!) reproducibly recalled the horizontal movement pattern, while quickly looking above and back the vertical one. (the last eye movement direction right before relative stationary gazing seems to have great impact on the interpretation).
I suggest you improve the illusion in the following way: apart (or without bars) have a slide that controls aspect ration of the imaginary rectangle of which the discs are the vertices. the flatter and broader the invisible rectangle the more it will be vertical bouncing, while the taller and narrower the more it will be horizontal movement, instead of discrete transition of bars, the observer can try to find his unstable equilibrium point of perception in a continuous way (i predominantly observed the vertical bouncing unless forcing it as horizontal displacement)

Sorry, poor typing...when focusing on center of MIB a single yellow dot may disappear (or two or three), but at same time the remaining dots change color. Found this unexpected.

Re: Motion Induced Blindness
Thanks for the great site! Just curious, has anyone else noticed when focusing on center that yellow dot(s) while other change to an orange color?

I find that this is very unique and fun!

Dear Chetan and others who might be in the same boat:
Yes, there are now altogether 5 demos here which do not use Flash, rather something somewhat complicated (Cappuccino) but well suited for modern Browsers. I am sorry to disappoint you, but I will continue to move away from Flash. The new technology currently loads a little slow (I am still learning there) and does require modern browsers. Safari, FireFox, Chrome work very well and are available for nearly all platforms without cost.
I never liked the Flash programming environment. And just now this happened: a new version of the Flash player came out, and in some browsers all demos ceased to function – it was an Adobe-supplied script to embed the Flash content which was the culprit.
All new demos here, and step-by-step the old ones too, will be modernised to work on modern browsers with JavaScript without any additional plugins.
I apologize for any inconvenience, but the Internet is very dynamic.
On another note: thanks to all for their welcome and kind comments, I read them all and respond to the degree I can find the time.
Best, Michael

Not able to see leaning tower illusion and other illusions in which you have not used flash players; its very slow without flash player. Please do use flash player (SWF file) and upload again.

I find it amazing you spent so much time putting together something that is so much fun for others. I'm sure that you and your perspective on life is as intriguing as your website.

Re the Snake Illusion Ad Lib, color DOES make a difference -- for me, at any rate. I was totally unable to reproduce the illusion when the colors were changed to gray.
P.S. In my previous posting, the last "right" should have been "left," as in "looked to the left."
